Hate speech laws

I am inclined to oppose hate speech laws.  laws like that would put Trump in jail for sure, and it would be a Pandora's box we would never be able to close.

The concept of having laws against "hate speech" is detestable. That such laws might sweep up someone you hate (oh the irony) is no reason to be wistful about them.

Hardly detestable. All of the rights enumerated in the Constitution have limits. Establishing those limits is always going to be a contested matter.

I am in principle opposed to hate speech laws, with the exception of speech that explicitly incites violence.

SO if a person were to say, "I think all Elbonians are pond scum, and a blot on humanity." he ought to have the right to say it. But if he were to say, "Let's kill all the Elbonians,"... well, that's a Bridge Too Far, and should be illegal.

James Hodgkinson, the political assassin who shot up Republicans at a charity softball game was, by all accounts, inspired by Bernie Sanders.

Don't know any Trump supporters shooting up Dems.

Perhaps I should put this in Dangerous Idea terms: Bernie Sanders is for socialized medical care. Sen. Sanders spent his honeymoon in Russia. Therefore, guys who play softball to help the underprivileged deserve to be shot (and something about Hitler).

Starhopper said it well. If it isn't an attempt to incite violence or cause injury, it should not be illegal or banned. Direct calls to violence are easily identifiable and justifiable for a law to act against. Offending an arbitrary demographic is not.

Starhopper sounded like a Kneebonian with his prejudiced target. Then again, he may be a champion for the oppressed lefties of Elbonia, which is why one man's hate speech is another man's truth, and a great example of the murkiness of attempting speech regulation. In France, people got convicted for wearing shirts advocating a boycott of Israel. That's ridiculous, yet it was allowed because the government called it hate speech against Jews.

We dont need that here.

Some of my best friends are Elbonians.

"Some of my best friends are Elbonians."

Those are the words of every bigoted, black hearted, malevolent, antiElbonian.

You think your shallow friendships disguise your wicked intentions?

On secular outpost an atheist argues since child abuse exists there must not be a God because if God existed there would be no evil. My steriological drama argument explains both why God must allow evil and provides a free will defense,

(1)Rumor started by Repubs who hate Sanders

(2) being inspired does not make Sander's words hate speech.

my aunt's cousins adopted landlord is an Elbonian. Named Dilbert. As you know Elbonioans believe in killing anyone who offends them three times in a row.

Are hate speech laws only against alleged hate toward persons? There are a lot of things that I hate that are not people. Can I still speak out against (for instance) fascism, environmental destruction, gerrymandering, rap "music", automobile service center waiting rooms, violent video games, voter suppression, the designated hitter rule, Yankees fans (whoops! cancel that one - they're people.. allegedly), anything digital, and mosquitoes?

I think hate speech only applies to direct thoughts against people based upon who they are. If I threaten to kick your ass because I'm tougher than you that;s not hate speech,If I threaten it because you are Elbonian than it is.

But then I think I;m right so I;m doing something wrong in relation to another thread.

btw no one took the bait on the Dilbert joke. I tried to set that up above

"my aunt's cousins adopted landlord is an Elbonian. Named Dilbert. As you know Elbonioans believe in killing anyone who offends them three times in a row.

then you say '"that;snot fair" or:"harsh"or something

I say:that's twice, (that I've been offended)

for those who wonder where this is coming from Elbonians are from the cartoon strip Dilbert this was gag in the stip

Joe,

Guys are getting mowed down in a hail of bullets because of Bernie's words. People can't even play a game of softball anymore without being shot to pieces over socialized medicine. There are people living on the edge, and if Bernie says, "Republicans don't care" these caring souls will blast Republicans with gunfire to save our country. You don't understand the carnage Sen. Sander's has brought to our nation by his mischaracterization of his opponents. Our duly elected government representatives are literally being riddled with lead. Our entire democracy may fall if we continue to excuse these political assassinations and those who inspire them.

Joe, I'm pleading with you to understand, we are at a tipping point in the rage and hatred against those who don't care. Please, don't let anyone else be gunned down over politics. Stop the Bernie death squads. Stop the hate.

Dave,

Is this supposed to be satire?

Joe Hinman said...

Yes I was just trying to figure out how to ask that.

Joe Hinman said...

Dave, have you taken your meds?

Victor Reppert said...

Of course it's satire.

Dave Duffy said...

"Of course it's satire."

Thanks Victor

Joe Hinman said...

is it cleaver?

Dave Duffy said...

"is it cleaver?"

No. Sarcasm is rarely clever. Satire only works for the truly gifted. Alas, God made me average.

Main aspect in the providing of good speech law for everybody is the aim audience. If the speech is about or in the mac casino, the gamers must be the aim people.
