The Lakers-Celtics final is finally a reality

The biggest factor in this series, to me, was Kobe Bryant's absolute consistency. He got over 30 every time except when he was doubled consistently. Then he got all sorts of assists. When the Lakers lost two games, Bryant got in everybody's face about defense.

The last time the Suns got in the Finals, in 1993, the lost to a team with Phil Jackson as coach, and there was this superstar on that team, who produced a Bryant-like performance. His name was, I believe, Jordan.

I guess I'll root for the Celtics.

What's not to like about my Lakers?

If you enjoy baseketball, we can run, we can play clamp down defense (especially Artest, and hopefully Artest on Pierce!). We have the best closer in the league if you like people who make spectacular and clutch shots (i.e. Kobe, just ask the Phoenix coach who got it exactly right when he said that they played great defense against him, he just made great shots!). We have people with heart like Derek Fischer. You get to see celebrities at our home games, ;-). Again, what's not to like?

Or do you just not like LA?

You have a better chance persuading Steve Hays to become an Arminian than you have persuading a Celtics fan to like the Lakers.

You have a better chance of getting Richard Dawkins to join the Catholic Church thatn to get a Celtics fan to like the Lakers.

You have a better chance of getting Rush Limbaugh to support Obama than of getting a Celtics fan to like the Lakers.

You have a better chance of getting bin Laden to convert to Judaism than to get a Celtics fan to like the Lakers.

I did not know that BDK was a Celtic fan. Victor you are quite correct that most Celtic fans are intractable enemies of the truth! :-)

“You have a better chance persuading Steve Hays to become an Arminian than you have persuading a Celtics fan to like the Lakers.”

Genuine persuasion exists only in a non-deterministic framework, a framework he denies, so why waste time persuading him? He’s in a far worse off place than a Celtic fan anyway. Celtic fans are at least sensible in a way determinists like him cannot be. I can have rational discussions with Celtic fans, discuss actual facts and statistics and matchups, but with determinists like him . . . .

“You have a better chance of getting Richard Dawkins to join the Catholic Church than to get a Celtics fan to like the Lakers.”

Dawkins is almost as far gone as Hays in regards to hatred for an opposing position. So you may be correct on this one!

“You have a better chance of getting Rush Limbaugh to support Obama than of getting a Celtics fan to like the Lakers.”

True! :-)

“You have a better chance of getting bin Laden to convert to Judaism than to get a Celtics fan to like the Lakers.”

I disagree on this one, I actually believe that bin Laden is way further gone than Celtics fans are. Celtic fans hate the Lakers and I understand why so there is some sense to it.

In regard to degree of difficulty in changing my suggested order would be (with the first being the least likely to change): bin Laden, Hays, Dawkins, Rush, Celtic fans.

On the other hand, the bible says that with God all things are possible, so perhaps some of them could change.

Unfortunately, Hays has already rejected the truth, what God has clearly said, so what else could God say to change him?

Finally, though I prefer the Lakers, I can and do respect Celtic fans as they have some very good reasons to like their team, reasons like Russell, Havlicek, Bird, . . . . :-)

I'm a Pistons fan, but I like Garnett and Pierce, and dislike Kobe, so....

2003 NBA draft, Pistons have the #2 pick. and they take...? Ah, we would probably have been in every NBA finals since then if only we had taken Carmelo Anthony.

Victor is right, and expresses my fully rational hatred of the Lakers perfectly. I'm a New Englander, lifelong Celtics fan.

The only significantly bad thing about my wife, who is from LA, is that she is a Lakers fan.

Our house is much more tense now than when Carolina plays Duke. The former rivalry is in my blood, the latter is more an accident of employment.

For Bilbo, BDK, Eric and any other Celtic fan, I have only one relevant comment for you at this time:

Lakers 102, Celtics 89

Thanks Robert. Can you tell which finger I'm typing this with?

Eric: A truly mixed marriage!

This may be a difficult series for the Celtics. I am predicting Lakers in 6, but it could be even worse for Boston.

Bilbo said...

Seven.

Not hard at all. :-)

It is very difficult and inefficient to type with just your middle finger. It would be much better and smarter to use your index finger if you can't use all of your fingers and never learned to type. But then what should we expect from a Pistons fan? :-)

Robert

PS - I am very surprised that you think it will go seven: I didn't know that Piston fans could count that high! :-)

Bilbo said...

Ooh. Good one. Quick somebody! Throw me a comeback!

Bilbo said...

Hey Robert,

I even took off my shoes and socks, but I still couldn't count that high. What does

Boston 103, Los Angeles 94

mean?

Victor Reppert said...

It looks like they can count to 103 in Boston!

Bilbo said...

With the 2-3-2 set up, I don't think the Celtics will win three in a row, so it will go back to LA, and probably come down to game 7. Should be a classic match.

Victor Reppert said...

The silence from BDK after Boston's victory is deafening.

Bilbo said...

Sorry Celtics lost game 3, but I'm happy for Derek Fisher. Good to see the old man step up in the 4th.

Bilbo said...

Thanks to their bench the Celtics won game 4. But I now think Vic is right, and the Lakers may finish it in 6.

Bilbo said...

Hmm, looks like my first prediction was better. Classic match.
