I've always wondered how the presence of Christian (and just-plain-theistic) philosophers adds up nowadays. But I have to say, what I typically hear is 'more than you'd think'. Encouraging news.
I'm in my first year in college, and I recently was at an intervarsity meeting where I spoke to a graduate student in philosophy and asked him about whether it was a good idea to do philosophy. He said, "It's a great time to be a Christian in philosophy." I think I'm going to declare my major in it pretty soon.
Not a bad thing at all for atheists. It is not the thinking Christians that are the threat, it is the one's that refuse to think and only follow that bring war and suffering for the rest of us.
It's no small surprise that religious fundamentalism tend to be rife in areas where education, and thus the means to think for oneself, is limited.
Although slightly off-topic, I just wanted to mention (since I could not locate a means to message you personally), that a new informal paper/blog has been created titled "Taking Over the Outsider Test for Faith (OTF): How the OTF Supports Theism, Supernaturalism & Intelligent Design (and Why It Matters). This blog can be found here: www.theoutsidertestforfaith.blogspot.com.
Since you and John Loftus have debated the OTF in quite a bit of detail in the past, I thought that you (and your readers) might be interested in this paper/blog.
I just wanted to let you know. Thank you in advance for your time.
It is refreshing to see others speaking truth when so many are followers of lies. You might check out my online book "Your Salvation Depends on Truth" at http://www.onlinechristiancenter.com and if you do I would welcome your input. I never really edited the book as it was a rather intense time for me physically. Is there an Arian church that is not tainted with erroneous Theology?

Oops, my error: I'm not an Arian. What is the correct title of my heresy, if I thought that we are not pre-destined to Heaven or Hell?

Arminian? Open theist?
Thanks Walter.
Bilbo (as he's being burnt at the stake): "Wait! Did I say I was an Arian? I meant Arminian!"
Interesting post.
