This is a complex subject with no easy answer. Putin is unquestionably a Bad Man, who shamelessly uses his office for personal gain and for the enrichment of his cronies. He is a bully and a friend of bullies (not to mention of gangsters, murderers, and various other criminals). No argument there.
That said, I happen to approve of the Russian annexation of the Crimean Peninsula, and agree with Russia that the current border between itself and the Ukraine is insane and badly needs readjustment. Unfortunately, most Americans know absolutely nothing about the history of this area, and blindly swallow the narrative that's been fed them without investigating it.
So this (like so many other issues in the world) is not a case of black and white, of good guys and bad guys. It's messy and ambiguous.
there's a big difference in saying the boundaries were drawn wrong they are an injustice and saying, so therefore we can invade right now.I am against the way the boarders of Iraq were made up but that doesn't mean the Iraq war was a good idea.
I do hope we never have to test Kasparov's prediction that our democracy is strong enough to survive Trump. He is probably right but why endure that trial.

And the same can not be said to apply to American and European presidents? What about the president of the NATO member Turkey? And American allies Saudi Arabia and Pakistan?

I think God is judging America and the judgement is if we elect Trump we deserve times as interesting as the election that brought them in.
