Ryan Anderson on why government is involved with marriage

Here.

Is it really true that you gotta have a license?

Excellent article!

Did not understand the video, however. I'm not a football fan, so I have no idea who those people were who kept showing up in it. They seemed to have nothing to do with the song. What am I missing?

The important parts of the video has to do with the overall (somewhat humorous) plot.

1) The guy goes fishing with his brother, only to be told by the game warden that "you gotta have a (fishing) license," so he has to throw them all back.

2) The guy drives a car, and is pulled over by the cops and told "You gotta have a (driver's) license.

3) The guy is trying to make love to his girlfriend, who tells him "you gotta have a (marriage) license.

It's fairly transparent why the government passes out fishing and driver's licenses. It is less than clear why governments pass out marriage licenses. Surely it isn't legally required to have them in order to have sex (though it may be morally required). But it is less than transparent why the government has to pass out marriage licenses. And before we can assess whether same-sex couples should get them, we have to take a close look at why governments are passing them out in the first place. And that was the point I was making.

Those parts I got, but why do those two football guys keep showing up? Who are they, and why are they in the video?

You should know them. They are the Harbaugh brothers.

Like I said, I don't follow football. (If the Orioles aren't playing, I just yawn and find something else to think about.) I've never heard of them (until now).

Still don't know why they're in the video.

John Harbaugh is the head coach of the Ravens, from, you know, Baltimore.

Football? In Baltimore?

Hey, I'm still stewing over Robert Irsay's midnight theft of the Baltimore Colts in 1984.

Forget! Never!

(1984 was the year I swore off following football forever.)
