What are the social responsibilities of businesses?

Here is Milton Friedman's famous essay claiming that a corporation has no obligation other than to make a profit. Now, if corporations are persons, does that mean that persons have no obligation other than to make a profit?

Hi Dr. Reppert, I'm sorry this is off-topic, but since I don't have your email, I figured I'd drop you a short line on your blog.

I'm about to finish writing a book entitled, Faith and Philosophy, which is a concise treatment of the arguments for and against God's existence. As a believer, I defend many of the arguments in favor of God's existence, while attempting to refute some atheistic arguments. It's meant to be an introductory text that will help philosophical novices get their feet wet, while not dumbing the arguments down too much.

To cut to the chase, would you be interested in writing the Forward? You can email me at dougbenscoter@hotmail.com. Thanks!

Friedman does distinguish between artificial persons and persons, though.

I think the more interesting and controversial move is the discussion on the normative implications of methodological individualism.
