Hitler's Crib

There are cases when what maximizes utility contradicts a principle. What if you are in a position to kill someone you know will do great harm to the world. What if, for example, you are transported back in time and are standing over Hitler's crib. There is a pillow handy. Do you smother him, especially if you think you are going to return to 2025 forthwith?

I'm guessing, from a leftist position, is abort the defensive Hitler child. Planned Parenthood is founded on this principle and you can kill without conscience. The conservative position is give the socially awkward young Adolf a good family, community and church and hope for the best.

Hitler in this case is already born. It's not a matter of conservatism vs. liberalism, it's a matter of utilitarianism vs. deontology.

What would God do?

We know what God did/allowed.

There’s little difference between conservatives and liberals anymore. The left is in a different moral world. The difference is between, as you write Victor—principles.

Maybe we won't all be guilty for breathing now.

Miller, the more citizens understand the laws that govern us the more conservatives and liberals will want to be free from the left.

What there seems to be is liberals, conservatives, an authoritarian left, and an authoritarian right, which uses what you might have thought were leftist tactics to achieve "conservative" goals. Trump normally fits in the last category, but the one executive order seems to be getting back to basic conservative principle, not only on what to achieve, but how to achieve it.

Here's a case of leftism gone awry. This kind of control on free speech is dangerous. https://www.thefire.org/news/colorado-reversal-misgendering-ban-crisis-averted-danger-revealed

If you think it’s dangerous for Florida’s legislators to have the power to police speech in public school classrooms, then you should find it equally outrageous for Colorado legislators to try to mandate what pronouns parents can use with their own children in their own homes or journalists can use when reporting stories.

Forgive me Victoria, how is free speech in Florida classrooms policed and how is it different than all the other regulations that govern public schools. I honestly don’t know what’s going on in Florida public education.
