A Christian Defense of Transgender Identities

Here. Though I think most transgendering these days is the result of gender ideology and trigger-happy medical professionals who think all cases of gender dysphoria require a change of gender. I think medical science will get over this fad.

Billie Hoard is a man, transgender and a high school teacher. Also not a very good philosopher, theologian or trustworthy guardian of children.

Is anyone else tired of blatantly subversive activists making crazy and lame claims to be "Christians"?

He's very good at subversion.

Victor,

Why do you think this? And what is "gender ideology?"

There's also racial dysphoria.

SteveK,

A quote from the article:
" People say things like "You're White, you'll never be Black" or say my skin is "Blackface". But I don't take these comments to heart."

So according to progressives if you are a man that wants to transition to a woman, that is perfectly laudable, but if you are white and want to transition to black you are a horrible racist. Crazy is as crazy does.

The basis for the argument seems to be found in these three comments from the article:

1) “Sex is between the ears before it is between the legs. We have sexual souls.” - quote from Catholic philosopher Peter Kreeft

2) If the dominant sex of soul is not the same as that of the body, we have a sexual misfit, a candidate for a sex change operation of body or of soul, earthly or Heavenly.

3) (regarding the sexual misfit) we must decide whether or not to trust her (Wanda) account of her soul. Given that she is the only person (other than God) who is able to know her soul directly, she is the only person who can verify her own claims

This argument gets out of control quickly. If there can be a "sexual misfit" then there's no reason why there cannot be other more drastic misfits. We could have a taxonomic misfit where Wanda has a chimpanzee soul but her body is human. Something went wrong between God creating her soul as a chimp and natural processes forming her body into a human.

There's also the limbs misfit. Wanda is convinced that God created her as a 1-armed soul, but she was born with 2 arms. We have to trust her account of her soul - she knows best. Surgery is the only option I suppose.

That person also mischaracterized Kreeft's position on transgenderism.

"The Church today must continue to do what she has done for 2,000 years: preach both by words and acts, the whole Gospel. And with regard to the new issue of transgenderism, the same two principles are still in full force: that God is truth and God is love and therefore there are two absolutes for us — truth and love, “speaking the truth is love.”

Therefore, we must be sensitive and compassionate and listening to the “transgender” people and give them what they most need, which is truth: that God is real and that He is the designer and creator of their sexual identities and happiness. Also, that He designed their bodies and gave free will to their souls so that they could choose to accept or reject His will both for their souls and their bodies. And that body and soul are one, that they are not angels misplaced in bodies or mere animals only imagining they have spiritual souls."

Martin: The documentary Dysconnected suggests that people believe that gender is a matter of psychology rather than biology, and that they frequently see gender change as the only response to gender dysphoria. I mentioned this to someone on Facebook who told me that the trans persons he know had been put through a thorough vetting process before transgendering. But I want to know what criteria are used, and how young people can be to get this kind of treatment. My daughter has noticed a surge amongst trans cases in the classes she teaches, and it seems to arise from TikTok videos. She is liberal on a lot of issues, but she sees a problem here. I can see how one might be tempted to change gender if one is having trouble navigating adolescence (and who doesn't), but are people, particularly teenage girls, being persuaded to accept a permanent solution to what is really a temporary problem better addressed in other ways. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-m1GNncsaDI
