His essay on the dangers of the "inner ring" reinforces the importance of that observation.
I always found it ironic that Lewis spoke out so much and so consistently against the "inner ring", yet in his greatest novel That Hideous Strength, his hero Ransom is the leader of the mother of all inner circles up at St. Anne's.
