Even in the ancient world, we thought most events had natural causes

People accept natural causes for most events, science or no science. Otherwise, miracles wouldn't get anyone's attention. Jesus's walking on water wouldn't have meant anything if fisherman on the sea of Galilee routinely walked on water to find better fishing spots.

People cannot walk on water.

Because people cannot walk on water, Jesus did not walk on water.

Because Jesus did not walk on water, miracles do not exist.

Ergo, God does not exist.

I've seen this "logic" from the Dawkins crowd so many times. It was one of my earliest clues that the self-proclaimed people of Reason were unfamiliar with the exercising thereof.

I agree that is a faulty line of reasoning.

So far, I have yet to see a convincing line of reasoning against the existence of God/a god/gods. I also have yet to see a convincing line of reasoning in favor of them.
