Adam, Steve, Donald, and Melania

It seems to me that you could take the anti-gay position from a theological point of view (homosexuality is wrong in God's eyes), and still support same-sex marriage in the civil realm. This is what most people do with respect to Donald Trump's marriage. If we are enforcing Christian standards in the area of marriage through government, then you would have to say that someone who is dumping his wife for a younger woman for the second time, and is a well-known serial adulterer, should not be given another marriage license.  Instead, we ask him "are your prior divorces final," and if they are, he gets a license. If you are going to say that Adam and Steve can't get married because of what the Bible says, then you also have to say that Donald and Melania can't get married because of Mt 5:32 and other passages.

I take the position that homosexual behavior is wrong in God's eyes. I can tolerate same-sex marriage in the civil realm as the current law of the land. I also take the position that the current law is unwise and detrimental to the overall benefit of society. I am invited my government to have a say in laws so will make some effort (however weak) to influence the civil law to correct the error of legitimizing this poor social behavior. I do nothing to support same-sex marriage except to support living in civil toleration.

I do not agree that "Enforcing Christian standards in the area of marriage through government" is disallowed in same sex marriage because they are not upheld in divorce by permitting remarriage of a divorced person. It is a consistent Christian position to oppose same-sex marriage and disapprove of remarriage in the case of a divorce without adequate reason. These positions can be held consistently in a situation where the civil regulations permit what is disapproved.

The basis of "what most people do with respect to Donald Trump's marriage" is unclear. Most people are not involved in the decision of granting marriage licenses. I would think that most people are appalled at Trump's marriage history. I hope that you do not assume that a vote for Trump is endorsement of everything he has done, is doing, or will do.

Um, actually.. it sorta is. Maybe not everything, but it certainly is a statement that the candidate you voted for is less evil than the alternative, and that you expect his actions (past, present, and especially future) to be better than those of his political opponent.

Now, I perfectly understand the quandary of a choice between two evils. If I were a Russian living in 1941, I would unhesitatingly fight for Stalin against Hitler.
