A little off-topic but germane to the current discussion on religious involvement in community matters, I would be interested in readers' comments on this video at this address:

How could a good God exist who allows McDonalds to make burgers?

Wouldn't a just God bring back the McRib?

Not to mention blueberry shakes!

Lapa Pinton you are such a wise man bringing this to our attention!

My faith is seriously shaken!

I wrote a secular critique of homosexual marriage on my blog here. And I address the charge that being opposed to homosexual marriage is akin to racism here.

I should probably point out that, while these posts do not appeal to God or religion, I am a Christian. I shouldn't have to point that out, since it's irrelevant to the arguments, but the above comments make me think I should.

Yes I read your article and it is the work of an ignoramus. Your argument is narrow-casted and misconstrued. You claim:
"I've addressed the first assumption before, arguing that while race and gender are brute physical characteristics, homosexuality involves behavior, and behavior involves freedom.

And at the first hurdle it falls absolutely flat on its face when one considers the brute fact of those that are born without genitalia or multiple genitalia, hermaphroditism.

"Ambiguous genitalia (also known as atypical genitalia) is a birth defect (or birth variation) of the sex organs that makes it unclear whether an affected newborn is a girl or boy. This condition occurs approximately once in every 4,500 births. " Read THIS ARTICLE from the Victorian Department of Health, Australia. At 1 in 4,500 births, there are some 67,000 people in the US alone who are indeterminate sexual identification. What about that brute fact? What brute physical character of gender do they fall under?

And your utterly ridiculous claim that homosexuality involves behaviour, either as the predominant or selected behavior, simply flies in the face of biological and genetic fact. No one is made gay, They are born gay. And while they have the sex organs of a male or female, genetics has confirmed time after time after time after time [How many mores time does it have to be knocked into your thick head] that genitalia alone does not determine automatically translate into the genetic psychological, emotional and self-identificatory code in the structure of the brain. You have conveniently, and I would probably say, deliberately, refrained from addressing the numerous cases where gays and transgender people have the sex of one and the personality and psychological make-up of the other. They feel trapped in their body with the wrong identity and personality. The basis for this misalignment is genetic not learned social behaviour.

And unless you deal with these known facts, any pretense of a secular argument from you is just pious, ill-informed and egregious garble.

You are just fucking lucky you were born 'normal' because your secular argument for the preclusion of gays to enjoy what society can properly accord them is nothing but bigotry. And bigotry is not normal, behaviour in any behavioural sense. You were trained, inculcated to be a bigot.

Bigotry is nothing more that behaviour played out; detestable and hateful behaviour that dishonestly co-opts freedom to vilify and persecute a minority who through no fault of their own were born gay.

I'm an atheist and secular. Your argument is. not. secular.

The behavior point I think goes like this: I was born heterosexual, but there is nothing about my heterosexuality that requires that I perform heterosexual sex acts at any time during my lifetime. I can either engage in heterosexual behavior or not. And the same applies to homosexuals.

So, even if a person has no choice about whether or not to be gay (I must say that is certainly true in my case, and I am inclined to think that it is true in the case of at least some homosexuals), it is possible to freely choose or not choose to engage in homosexual behavior.
