Lewis may have been an eloquent speaker (I find his writing a bit obvious and "Anglo-ish"), but at times he sounds like a conservative Oxford Don, even out-Tory-ing a Dawkins or Russell:
Here a man could get the case for Christianity without all the paraphernalia of pietism and the case against it without the irrelevant sansculottisme of our common anti-God weeklies.
Associating the non-believers with the sans cullotes--a bit unfair. Some may be sans cullottes, but not all. TH Huxley was no sans cullotte. Nor was Russell.
