In actuality we appear to be much less selfless and 'sensible' than less conscious animals. We require years of socialization, laws and threats to keep us behaving at times as socially responsible citizens. We seem to forget these facts and our own personal skeletons when naturalists go on talking as though morality is subjective and yet try to argue in favour of morality, when they have destroyed the ground of all morality. This places some naturalist philosophers into the ironic position of painting themselves as noble, truth-seeking specks of organic by-product in a universe where our ideals are subjective phantoms. Lewis illustrated that despite our debunking of virtues, we still perceive them as being correct, even when we make a humbler claim of 'enlightened' thinking rather than moral wisdom.....why is enlightenment recognised as moral virtuosity?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10584495.post-1155879832292658442006-08-17T22:43:00.000-07:002006-08-17T22:43:00.000-07:00Animals show what we would consider "moral" behavi...Animals show what we would consider "moral" behavior as well. In experiments, mice showed greater distress at the suffering of familiar mice than unfamiliar ones, monkeys will starve themselves to prevent their cage-mates from receiving painful shocks, and chimps have a demonstrable sense of fairness when receiving food rewards.

Not all atheists believe in moral relativity. You are a lost sinner, very intelligent, but lost nonetheless. You have a fundamental problem with God from the very core of your being, and you stay away from the light of God's truth lest your deeds be exposed. You love darkness....Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10584495.post-1155698278030949792006-08-15T20:17:00.000-07:002006-08-15T20:17:00.000-07:00But morality doesn't always coincide with what you...But morality doesn't always coincide with what you would expect us to favour. Lewis's example of the double-agent who is despised even by those whom he profits is eye-opening. If you are arguing that ethics are essentially instinctual likes & dislikes that colour our interpretation of other peoples' actions.......than why do we need to educate every child on the way s and means to successful social behaviour? The political history of man provides little evidence that we have inherited much at all in terms of the civilised instintctual behaviour of the larger brained primates who are our predecessors.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-10584495.post-1155693570232612052006-08-15T18:59:00.000-07:002006-08-15T18:59:00.000-07:00Please continue to define "subjective" and "object...Please continue to define "subjective" and "objective," and let me know where your investigation takes you.

I mean, how "objective" (or for that matter "subjective") do you have to be to acknowledge that you, as a healthy happy life-loving human being don't really appreciate being murdered in your sleep, or having objects you have worked to obtain simply taken from you; or that you don't really appreciate being called names or spat upon?

I also suspect that interactions between large brained primates who were members of social species demonstrated such basic likes and dislikes millions of years ago.Edwardtbabinskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13036816926421936940noreply@blogger.com
