Trump and the Seven Deadly Sins

I think some of Trump's statements make virtues out of what Christians describe as sins. I recently told me class that I used to think Richard Dawkins was the most arrogant person in the world, until Donald Trump became President. C. S. Lewis called Pride, not abortion, the complete anti-God state of mind.

He has had some good words to say about greed as well.

There is no fault which makes a man more unpopular, and no fault which we are more unconscious of in ourselves. And the more we have it ourselves, the more we dislike it in others.

I don't know about the second sentence, but the first is spot on.

Also, I do not believe anyone runs for president who doesn't want power or money. It grants both, and is only available to those who already have them. Trump may be worse, but he is only worse in degree, not kind.

And at the same time I have very seldom met anyone, who was not a Christian, who showed the slightest mercy to it in others.

Hmmm. Doesn't look like anyone here is showing any mercy does it?

Trump is an overtly alpha male with a New York City mouth. That played well in NYC before he became president and chose to run as a Republican.

It would be interesting to hop to the parallel universe where Trump was the Democrat president. I'll bet the usual suspects would be touting the economy and not wringing their hands over Trump's crudeness. Much like they didn't make a fuss over Bill C's sinfullness.

I think Evangelicals have finally caught on to the game the Dems have been playing. Must be frustrating to not be able to fool people anymore.

Breaking: Belligerent Man Enters Capitol Building, Rants At Crowd

To be fair, both sides suck about holding their own side accountable. Politics is the art of mass hypocrisy for selfish gain.

To be fair

I've seen plenty of Republicans forced from office for merely saying something wrong. Dems, can wear blackface and remain in office.

Dems love that Republicans want to be "fair" as long as that means Dems win and Republicans lose.

Sure, but I was also talking about their supporters. For instance, Hannity would hammer Obama for the rising debt every day of the week but I haven't heard a word about the debt since Trump took office. Granted I haven't heard much of anything from him since the '16 election season when he would let Trump smear Ted Cruz but got all pissy when Cruz hit back, but a quick Google search also turned up nothing. Rush Limbaugh was the same way. Most of the Tea Party has gone silent, or else the news isn't reporting on their opposition.

All I'm saying is that both sides will profess principles that they will use to point out how bad the other side is, yet will happily overlook or commit violations of their own principles so long as the correct policy is being served. If Biden was the Democratic nominee next year and a woman accused him of sexual assault, there would be no swell of #MeToo to try and shut him down. If a picture of Biden in blackface cropped up, there would be no outrage from the left.

That's politics, and I doubt it ever changes. All I do is have a handful of priorities that I want from an office and then select whomever is most likely to enact my wishes. If I'm looking for a saint to put in office, I'll never find one.

Sen. Franken would likely dispute you on that. Times change, and the Democrats have changed.

Do you have one recent of example of a Democrat who wore blackface while in office, and remained there? Or, are you equating historical acts from Democrats with current acts from Republicans?

I've been reading criticisms of Biden for being too handsy with people.

There is one vice of which no man in the world is free; which every one in the world loathes when he sees it in someone else; and of which hardly any people, except Christians, ever imagine that they are guilty themselves.

That sounds a little prideful.

But this is precisely what Victor thinks you should be looking for isn't it? Otherwise, why all the posts about what a sinner Trump is.

Yes, but he's also not the nominee yet. Worst case scenario, they would simply say it was unfortunate that he had such personal shortcomings but we must overlook them to defeat Trump. That's what a lot of Trump voters said regarding Hillary, too.

It appears to be that way, but in my lifetime I have seen virtually no politicians that I would hold up as a role model to my children. It's all about the policy, not the person. The people who desire positions of power are rarely the ones who deserve it.

I'd go a little further. People who desire positions of power are often exactly the the ones that shouldn't get it.

If you mean that in a 'lesser of two evils' way, as opposed to 'I don't think it matters', I agree.
